Subject: Female Issues
I posted a question about sexual abuse a few days ago. Anyway, I had taken the morning after pill about 10-12 hours after the unprotected sex happened. I was also on the birth control pill, but haven't been taking it for a full month yet. This is likely me being paranoid, but my period is late, and I'm frightened. I know the morning after pill can make your period irregular and so can the pill, and so can stress, so what are the chances I'm pregnant. I know this is stupid but I can't stop thinking about it.

From personal experience of taking a morning after pill, I know that it can do some weird things to your period.  It may not even seem normal.  My period came two weeks early, and it was much lighter and I could tell it was different.  It scared me, and I was worried that I was still pregnant.  A month later, I took a test, just to see that paranoia had just gotten the better of me.

I'm not sure which kind of BCP you are on, but some of them only require one weeks worth of pills to start being active.  Waiting a month may just be a precautionary measure in case the pill hasn't completely adjusted.  On top of this you took the pill within 72 hours (and the sooner, the more effective).  The morning after pill is merely a stronger dosage of birth control pills, essentially.  But because of this strange amount of hormones suddenly added to your body, it will cause changes.  Some women may still experience their period at the same time, and others may experience a period that comes within a week of their time.  In general, if after you take the pill, your period doesn't come for 3 weeks, you should probably try taking a test.  Personally... my period started about 1.5 weeks after I took the pill, which was very early.

If you still have the information for the specific pill that you took, I would recommend reading through it and see what kind of side effects may be involved.  Also, it may be able to tell you when you can expect your next period to come.

Here is a quote from one website.  Hopefully the quotes work in e-helps..

Women using the morning-after pill may experience a change in their next period.  It may come early, on time, or be late.  Most women will get their period 7 to 9 days after treatment.  If your period has not occurred by 21 days after treatment, you should check this out with a pregnancy test.

Likewise, have you still been taking your birth control pills?  If you haven't finished the months worth of pills yet, then you won't be getting your period at the same time.  I'm not sure which pills you are taking, but after you finish the active pills, it can take a while for your period to start (mine is 5 days).  But likewise, if you took the morning after pill, then this should also affect when your period comes.

I wouldn't worry too much.  Like you said, so many things can make you irregular, I don't think you have any reason to worry :).  You are always welcome to PM me if you want to talk more about birth control or anything otherwise.  Best of luck!

If you have not stopped taking your birth control, your period will not start until you stop the birth control. Birth control stops you from ovulating and if you have continued to take it, then you will not start your period until you stop taking your pills.

If you think that you might be pregnant, go to the doctor and get a test done. If you are pregnant and you continue to take pills and such, it can hurt the baby.

But the be thing to do it just get a test to make sure that nothing is going on. I really hope everything is ok. If you ever need to talk, please message me. My inbox is always open.
