I live in a small town and am currently going to the college here. I transfer next semester to U of M and i hope that will help my situation. The situation is, I have recently brought religion into my life. I waited a long time to do so because I went through some shitty things as a young teen and was not ready. I am not a big drinker and can't stand parties. I would much rather stay home and read, yes I am a full fledged "nerd." I am going to school full time to eventually obtain my Ph.D in psych. It seems that the more I attempt to better myself the fewer people I have in my life. There is no one my age where I live who wants to have real discussion about things other than getting wasted and who fucked whom last night. I feel extremely alone. It wouldnt be so bad but both of my sisters have moved away and I am the only one left. The last real friend I though I had hasn't called me in nearly two weeks because she started dating some drug addict who has already filed bankruptcy at the grand age of 21. So even if she did call me I wouldn't want to hang out with her. I can't stand the people here. Its a catch 22. I don't like any of the people around here enough to be their friend. I don't have any friends because I don't like the people here. I'm not willing to sacrafice my standards for the people who I am going to spend my time with. It's not because I think I am better, just that life is too short to spend your time with people that you don't enjoy to the fullest extent. I hope that it all improves soon, I hate feeling like this.

I know the feeling love! I went through a similar thing and ended up transferring universities. As a result, I found friends that shared mutual interests and things got a whole lot better. If anything, just try to tolerate it for a bit longer - you're almost through this phase in your life.

Well done you for wanting to better yourself and for making the conscious and mature decision to bring religion into your life. It sounds like you are on the right track :)

If anything, do you know anyone at U of M? It's a massive place and any friends or familiar faces that you know might make the campus a bit less intimidating when you arrive their next term?  And who knows who you'll meet once you get there?

Good luck!!
