What, an optometrist gave you contact lenses without teaching you insertion and removal? I swear that's illegal. Anyway. I'm an Optometry student. Learn from an expert.
First look at the lens to make sure it isn't inside out. If it is the right way, it will look like a bowl. If it's the wrong way round, the edges will bow out like this: `
Make sure your hands are clean. Ensure the lens is moist, but before placing it on your fingertip ensure your finger is bone dry, otherwise it will stick to your finger when you try to put it in.
Hold your lids VERY tight and VERY wide, so that your eye bulges out. Use a mirror. Bring the lens towards the central part of your eye, looking up slightly if you wish. When you get the lens at your eye, apply a gentle pressure on the eyeball so that it stays.
DO NOT allow yourself to blink yet, or you'll blink it straight out. Still holding your lids apart, look up, down, left and right. Then slowly and gently let your lids close.
It generally takes a good few attempts to get it in. If you've tried it two or three times, dunk the lens back into solution to re-wet it and repeat the process again.
If you need tips on removal, let me know.
