I would go for duo if you want something now. Quad cores have to be programmed to make use of it and I don't think there's much software that takes advantage of that.

actually the same applies for Duo core, it's called multithreading. They used to have the same problem.

High end core 2 will tipicaly beat a low end quad unless your using a program that can take advantage of all 4 cores. Name the processors and we can decide.

Go for an E7200 imo. Benchmark quite close to the E8200 but cheaper.
