I just read that page about the shot I'm on...and it makes me want to quit taking it.

I've been on it for about five years, but the past six months, I've been experiencing serious weight gain, and I just can't lose any of it.

I don't want to quit it though, because I'm sexually active and I can't afford to get pregnant.

What should I do? :-/

1) Weight gain has many causes. Birth control has shown to only be a small factor.

2) If your sexually active, keep taking it, or find a method of birth control to replace it, such as a diaphragm.

I'm not just concerned about the weight gain though. I read that it causes bone density loss, and it wouldn't surprise me if that has started already. Also, one of my classmates ended up with ovarian cysts which had to be surgically removed.

You have to think about it like this, there are millions of women in the world who are on some form of birth control. Each and every single form of BC is going to have it's good points and it's bad points. I bet if you read a similar article on every form then you would want to stop taking it all together, but that would not be wise as you said yourself, you are not wanting a baby.

If you seriously do not want to carry on with it then consult your doctor and he/she will discuss trying another form of birth control. It's all about experimentation. Finding the method that's good for you.

You can't keep thinking about the side effects of everything otherwise you're not going to want to do anything. Will you stop eating certain foods because some quack somewhere says that it will give you cancer? It's the same sort of thing.
