I want to learn a new programming language, I've already learnt vb.net at college. So, what do you suggest?

Stop the mindless wishing that things would be different. Rather than
wasting time and emotional and spiritual energy in explaining why we don't
have what we want, we can start to pursue other ways to get it.

I quite enjoy Java, but you'd probably be better off learning C++.

C# would be good. It's under the .net framework.

Start with C, then C++.
From there you can go to Java, Python, C# or any number of languages.
