it is causing trauma to students.  If you thought a classmate had died, esspecially a close friend, that would cause emotional distress and causing fake emotional distress is illegal.

So long as they got the consent of the student they said to have died beforehand, then I see no problem with it.  In fact, I think it's utterly awesome.  Things like this stick in peoples' heads and they'll remember to how they reacted when they were told that a friend died in a drinking and driving incident.  Hence they'll be less inclined to let any of their friends drink and drive in the future.

It is teaching students to distrust authority figures by having them lie.  Also, it is not the schools place to put on a production like this.  If they talked to the parents before hand that would be one thing but i highly doubt that happened.  There are other ways to make this point stick without causing such intense emotional distress.
