I like it.
Just wouldn't have it on myself.

If there is one thing I just cannot stand it is gauged ears.

I have been seeing a lot of utterly cliche tattoos lately, and it bothers me slightly. Why get something that hollow inked on you? I'm referring to the barbed wire round the bicep, or japanese calligraphy, or illegible shit written in those olde english letters, or nautical stars, or people who get animals and claim it's something to do with where they were raised... There's no individuality, no meaning in it, and don't understand why people do it. The only reason I got my tattoo work done at all was because it meant something to me, and it reminds of something I want to forget but also know I shouldn't. Ever.

That said, nose piercings. I need some opinions. I've got two rings in the left side of mine, and was thinking about getting another one in the right, but does that actually look good or what? I'd say it does, but I think I'm biased on the issue. Need some outside perspective.

I think 3 rings in your nose is a bit much.

But I don't like nose piercings...

And I agree with you on the tattoo part. Expect that sometimes the symbols or whatever do have meaning to the person. Like, if they are Japanese for example, having Japanese writing on them makes perfect sense.

Do you think Japanese people get words in English tattooed on them?

And it's never because the words meaning anything, it's just for the look. No one gets "love" and "prosperity" and so on tattooed on them in English, but as soon as it's translated into kanji or whatever it becomes cool.

Well, I am getting the Buddhist Mantra for compassion. So yes, it is symbols. Does that mean it has no meaning to me? No. I chose the symbols over English because the meaning it has to me is from the Buddhist roots and I don't really want everyone else knowing what it means because it is personal. If they ask, I will tell them, but it is my personal tattoo and I couldn't care less if strangers don't know the meaning/what they think of it.

I don't like when people go pick a symbol without research. And then it ends up meaning something else. Pick symbols because they actually have meaning to you and make sure you know the correct translation.

I mean...it is just hard to judge how much meaning a tattoo has to a person if you don't know why they are getting it.

I hate meaningless tattoos. But I don't think you can assume all symbol tattoos are meaningless to their owners.

I don't think the a Buddhist mantra is really comparable to retarded teenagers getting "peace" in kanji on their arms or whatever. It doesn't really fit into the look-of-the-thing school, does it.

I bet at least half of them, if asked, couldn't give a single good reason why they got it inked.

In that case, those people are 'tards. I am just saying you can't assume right off the bat.

I had a friend in highschool who got the Japanese symbol for daughter on her because her mom died. But many people would assume she was just a stupid teen picking a random symbol.

I dunno, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

I'm far too bitter and cynical to give ANYTHING the benefit of the doubt at this point.

If she wanted to memorialise her mother, why do it in Japanese? Are either of them from Japan?

Loud Dog, I read something not too long ago (I'll have to find it later) about people over there getting words on them in English. I'm sure some of them have no idea what they mean, or don't care and just want a tattoo.

Tattoos mean to me a memory of past experiences, a person, beliefs, or simply to have beautiful art on you forever, etc.

I would like to get one (now if I could, trust me) that has to do with what I'm into, people in my life, beliefs, my depression, etc.

These include some I like:
- http://i17.tinypic.com/6bc23d0.jpg (on my back)
- http://i17.tinypic.com/4lzayq9.jpg (perhaps without the bible verse under it;haven't decided yet where)
- A H.I.M. sign perhaps on one of my fingers like Kat Von D has, or on my wrist
- Stars or a lightning bolt on my hip
- http://i14.tinypic.com/2zhpi7p.jpg (maybe along my hand / arm)

The only piercings I have is two ear lobe ones, and one of my cartiledges. I would like to get my nose and possibly my lip and navel pierced. I don't care much for radical piercings.

How painful is getting your nose (side;stud) , lip (center;ring) , and navel pierced? What would be the age restrictions on them?

Did you ever see that one person?
& the subtle way that they do these things and it hurts so much?
So much like choking down the embers of a great blaze
It's that moment when your eyes seem to spread aspersions

Most places here you need to be 18 years old to get a piercing.
Those piercings don't hurt much. The nose piercing remains sore for a short while, but it's not bad. There are saline products you can buy (specifically, H2Ocean) that help with pain and make cleaning much easier.
