I think inviting more people makes it overcrowded. He came up with the idea of pairing new members up with older members to give LW more of a sense of familiar community. Now he wants thousands of new members to come in here. No one will know anyone else which might seem good to some people but to a lot of people, seeing the same few members posting a lot lets you get to know some other people in a "safe way" and is also nice.

If I end up inviting a friend, it will be a bogus account.  Why?  I currently have one real life friend, and he is too old, and too busy to bother with this place.  As a young, single mother maintaining a social life isn't easy.  But don't worry, I'm not assuming you give a shit.

That's a re-wording of what you've already said. You still haven't addressed the fact that many of us do not have anyone to refer because we want to remain anonymous, especially the older members who have already referred those close to them. The anonymous feature isn't enough to cover all the past posts, or to prevent friends from recognising the situations that we describe.

MER are fucking pointless, nothing is ever done. When i was on the oversight board i saw maybe 1 out of 30 reports turned around.

Well, this is a bit of a mess, isn't it?  I'm not going to criticize this decision because I can understand it was made in hopes of increasing the LW population, even though as others have said already, most of the referred people probably aren't going to ever end up posting.

It was unnecessary for people to send hate mail and I'm sorry to hear it, but it's understandable why we're angry.  This forum is for people coming here for help, people who probably don't want others to find out about the website so that their secrets won't be discovered.  If we refer three friends, those friends will know who we are on here and will be able to check--if they wish--our posts and topics.  There goes the anonymity.

And those of us who don't mind our friends knowing about the site will probably feel embarrassed about asking them to join.  I'm afraid of seeming pushy.

I wish it was a one referral thing instead of a three-referral thing...
