1GB is 1024 Mb, and I think 1Mb is 1000K.

P.S. 512Mb for $70 is a bad deal. Check out Office Max. I bought three 256's for a buck each.

You're talking about RAM, and here's the size breakdown:

1 bit is just a 1 or a 0.
8 bits make 1 byte.
1024 bytes makes 1 kilobyte (KB)
1024 kilobytes makes 1 megabyte (MB)
1024 megabytes makes 1 gigabyte (GB)
1024 gigabytes makes 1 terabyte (TB)

You get the idea.
Anyways, if you're looking to buy more RAM, you'll want the same speed and type as whatever you already have.
Why do you want more RAM anyways?

I highly doubt that, maybe on ebay, but not at an Office Max. If you really did, then they're almost definitely shitty quality.
Poor quality RAM is worse than not enough.

A memory stick isn't RAM. She is talking about a flash drive.

And no, any old flashdrive will do.

OH and those flash drives were not the best quality, but good for the purposes I needed.

You need a new hard drive. I would recomed Seagate. I bought a 250GB harddrive at Wal-Mart for $100.

By the way, what will this computer be used for?

If that is all you are using it for then I wouldn't go over 100GB, but If you are going to do some Video Editing or using photoshop a lot then I would go around 150-250.

Wait...UNI NL?

In that case you defnitely want another harddrive, NOT a memory stick / flashdrive.
