Never get Norton or Mcafee.  Norton misses shit and Mcafee just plain sucks.  Avast free caught ~20 missed things when I switched from Norton.  Mcafee has made a few of my friend's computers unstable.  If you want good and free get Avast or AVG.

If you are forking over money get Kaspersky or NOD32.

People who recommend Norton should not be allowed to touch a computer that is connected to the internet.

You probably don't want Kaspersky. WAY too paranoid. And it interferes with alot of online games. I had to force it to literally ignore steam.

I heard NOD32 is pretty good.

Norton is NOT a good anti-virus, even free programs do the job better. If you top security i'd recommend buying Kaspersky, This is the best one i've seen so far, but NOD32 is very good too.

I've had a lot of problems with Norton.  It's expensive, it doesn't work well, and it conflicts with other programs.  McAfee is free, but it's also a not so great program.

If you want a top of the line one, pay for Kaspersky...but you can get decent coverage with free programs too.

I've been using Avast for a couple years now, and it works very well.  Easy use, and very comprehensive.  It picked up viruses norton and mcafee missed, and I haven't had any infections since installing it.  AVG is also about the same, I know many people that have either Avast or AVG and are very happy with it.
