The older members of LiveWire have spent some time reminiscing about what we wish we would have known when we were first coming to the site, and what we came up with was a top ten list of things we wanted to share with you. So here are the top ten things we wish we knew when we were new:

-- How do I make my very first topic
To help you make your first post, how about you introduce yourself in this forum- the Brand New Members & Introductions Forum. To do this, you can just press the button at the top of this topic, which says "New Topic". Type your introduction in the box, press the Create Topic button, and away you go! This also helps tick off a part of your Basic Member Checklist! But remember to finish reading this guide before you go off into the world of LiveWire.

---Some commonly used slang---
N00b - A member that is making themself look obviously new. Avoid being called this at all costs. Ex: Person one: Who is Anti Christ? Person two: N00B!!!
FTW - Some term that a few gamers coined, and now everyone on LW is expected to know what it means. Stands for 'For The Win'. Ex: Person one: I like teenhut Person two: . . . LiveWire ftw
Qft - Typically used when you are in agreement with a poster. Stands for 'Quoted For the Truth'. Ex: Person one: I'm sick of hearing about White Ninja!! Person two: QFT!!!
Spammer - A person who posts only to get points and/or attention. Ex: "stop spamming those pointless topics!"
Fail - Feedback you can typically expect when you have done/said something less than intelligent. Ex: Person one: *attempts to do a youtube tag* [Utube]www.youtube.com[Utube/] Person Two: ". . . way to fail"
Worried you might find more words here at livewire you dont understand? The dictionary is chock full of fun livewire words, check it out and be sure to add to it, once you get the hang of things.

-- What kind of topics am I not allowed to post?
One of the biggest mistakes that new members make is that they like to make topics that, while good-natured, are against the rules. This includes "Hot or Not" topics or anything asking for feedback on pictures. Another common one is the "Hey! Who wants to chat?" topic. The worst ones of all are the "I'm horny!" , "I'm bored." , "I'm 6'5" and looking for love." topics. These topics go to a place we call the trash. Members who post them go to a place we call hell.

-- Beware of links.
The Internet is full of a lot of wonderful things and a lot of not so wonderful things. Unfortunately, bad people on LiveWire sometimes want to link you to some less-good things. Like pictures of penises. Or feces. Which can be gross surprises. So be careful when you click on links and if you see a bad one, report it. Click here to learn how to report a post (this is a penis-free link; you can trust me).

-- Not everyone is nice. Some people are hairy trolls.
You probably joined this support site under the assumption that it was blossoming with nice, friendly members who are ready and willing to help. Well, don't you fret, there's an abundance of members that are here to support. :) With that being said, there are the select few who are a little less than friendly to some members. We call these people 'trolls.' It's up to you to not let the immature opinion of some people affect your outlook on the site in any way. After all, it's those members who aren't getting all that they could out of the site.

-- What is eHelp and how do I use it?
LiveWire is all about confidential support, but what do you do if you have a problem too intense and too personal to post in the forums? Try our Emergency Help system, affectionately known as eHelp. Whatever you post there can only be seen and answered by approved, super-helpful members called Support Leaders. Click here for help with your most serious problems or maybe you just want to click here to find a Support Leader to talk to one-on-one.

-- Who are these people?!?!?!
All LiveWire members are created equal, but their names may change color throughout their LW lifetime. Here's how it works:
I am a basic member. I delete your posts. I did something bad recently. I did something so bad that I can't post anymore. I left LiveWire permanently. Or, I signed out a few minutes ago and I'll be back later. I'm the boss--of everybody. I'm even the boss of the moderators.
For more formal titles, check out the FAQ entry here.

-- How do I contact a moderator? Remember they are here to help.
Being new on a site with over 140,000 members can get scary. Who do you talk to when you have a problem with or question about the site? Try finding the people with the blue names. These people are the moderators and they are like the LiveWire police. But more than that, it is there job to answer any number of questions that you might think are stupid and annoying. It can get lonely up there at the top, so why not PM them if you have a question? Want to talk to the boys-in-blue right now? Click here.

-- What else should I know?
The number one thing we wish we knew about LiveWire when we joined was...
...just how addicting it could be. It's invigorating like speed, sexy like ecstasy, relaxing like valium, and socially liberating like too many gin martinis. Best of all, it's good for you. Just like spinach. So don't be afraid to let yourself slip into the peaceful warmth of the healthiest high you can ever have: a good time!

At this point, you're thinking "Wow! This is a great forum!" You're right! But it's more than that. It's a great community too. You can connect to people one-on-one through private messages. You can form smaller communities called groups that can be either public or private, either fun or serious. You can interact in a very public way by leaving notes on people's whiteboards. You can even participate in community contests to earn points and fame. As you can see, there's so much to do on LiveWire, you don't ever have to leave. That's kind of the point.
