Last week while at the doctor, I was given the Depro Provera birth control shot due to the fact that I fail at remembering to take my pill. I'm a little worried, because the day after I had received the shot I was informed that it's very common for women on Depro Provera to be infertile when they do actually want a child.

Does anyone know anything about this, or know anyone who as experienced the results of this? Is it dangerous to my feminine organs? Should I switch back to the pill?

My doctor said it would be good for me, since I have a lot of benign cysts in my ovaries. The birth control makes them go away. The shot works wonders, but if it will strongly reduce my ability to have children one day, I think I'll get off of it.

Discuss.

I was reading on that shot, because I have a hard time taking pills  and I want to go on Birth control, but I read that It most likely caused temporary infertility. That for a few months after you stop taking the shot it makes you infertile, but you're supposed to go back to normal after a while.

I don't know much about it though. >_<

Yeah, one day I want kids.

If it's only temporary, then I don't mind. I just don't want to be making a choice I will regret in the future.

Well I would be sceptical about those birth control pills weather there's proven or not proven facts of it affecting fertility. Regular hormonal intake affects your body and mind weather you want it or not.

"Can I get pregnant after I stop using Depo-Provera?

Yes, you can. If you decide to become pregnant, the first step is to stop receiving doses. After the effect of the last dose of Depo-Provera had diminished, 83% of women got pregnant at some point within a year. This number is similar for women who did not use any form of birth control. Eighty-five percent of women who did not use birth control conceived within a year.

So, when you stop using Depo-Provera, you will return to your underlying level of fertility. But if your goal is to become pregnant within the next year, Depo-Provera is not recommended. Being able to get pregnant after using Depo-Provera has nothing to do with how many shots you've had. Whether you've had 1 dose or 20, it's the same. For some women it takes more time. And for other women, it happens faster. "

I haven'theard anything about pills effecting fertility. Only the shot, because it's very strong and stays in your body a long while.

This is a relief. I still will probably get more information on it though. Considering that is by Depro Provera's website it may be a little biased. Perhaps I will look for a forum of some kind. I'm sure that if a woman can't get pregnant because of birth control, she will want to talk to others.

well, if it helps ur cycst, then stay on it. I am on it. they say after 18 months, to stop. because it can cause u to be steral. (how ever u spell it)

I have been on it for 3 years and still not steral. And i love the shot. I have no periods or cramps. my boobs are larger, too.

bad thing about the shot is that u have to take calcium, too. it rots ur bones.
