Hey everyone. Let me tell you about my night. I just got written up.. almost, because i was drinking in my dorm room. my friend was blasting my stereo and the ra's came and knocked on the door. they said they heard things about taking shots and asked to search the room or they'd call the police. so i figured i'd rather have a dorm write up then an mip so i just let them. i told them about the empty handle i had in the fridge that i got from another weekend, but it was all ready finished. she asked if i had any i said no she asked if she could smell my breath and i said well i have it on my breath, but i didn't say from where.

i mean, what are my rights in this situation? like should i just say not to go in my room? then they'd call the police and i'd get an mip or somethin. like i've heard of it happening at other dorms. and ij ust think it is so messed up.

so i mean, waht do i do if i just don't want to be involved if i have "trophy bottles" because i dont want to get myself or my friends mip's or do anything wrong.

You seem to think you have rights in a dorm room. You don't. By living in the dorms, you agree to follow the rules set up by said dorm. That means, in most cases, not drinking. And not being ridiculously rude with a loud radio. For an RA to bust you, you all must have been really obnoxious. RA's don't care if you drink, they care if you're making the hall unlivable for the rest of the people.

Although, technically you have the right to tell them not to search your room (as an RA, I know that we were not allowed to search anything unless we got permission, although, many people did not know this, so they gave us permission thinking they had no other choice). But, saying that you do not want us to search something gives us reason to think that you have something to hide, which inevitably gives us reason to take the matter to a higher authority, which is no good for us or for you.

RAs really don't want to get you in trouble, and it kinda makes us feel bad to have to write people up or call the cops for something that we may even do ourselves.

It all comes down to: you signed a contract to live in the dorms. You can either follow the contract or find somewhere else to live. Seems pointless to me to risk getting kicked out of housing (and perhaps even the school!) purely because you couldn't keep your alcohol out of the dorms (AND when you are most likely underage).

So when you're happy (Hurray!), or sad (Aw!),
Or frightened (Eeek!), or mad (Rats!)
An interjection starts a sentence right.
