I need some help using illustrator. I'm trying to align a lot of shapes to one shape I have made using the shape tool/pen tool. I know it's possible to align text to 'follow' the line/shape but is it possible to do this with other shapes?

i believe so make you you make enough anchor points so that the shape you want to overlay aligns properly
