There are quiet a lot of free anti-spyware software.. i like to use
Ad-Aware by Lavasoft its free to use for personal use... so there isn't a trial period you just download it for free.

I have Ad-Aware 2007 the free version on my computer and it works fine and has regular updates.. I normally do a full scan around once a week which i would recomened or more often.. also i click to search for negligible risk entries and low-risk threats... and of course some options arn't available and it will say that. It will say you have to upgrade to the pay version or something like that.
Also there is another link next to it on the right which is the Plus Version..
It says that Ad-Aware 2007 Plus is now free.. but i do not know if that is a trial or not.. just follow the link you have to enter some details.. once entered your details you have to pick an offer.. this is as far as i got as i do not exactly know what will happen when i click an offer.. but you can feel free to try!
