It could be one of those pop-ups that like to lie to unsuspecting users. Unless if its windows itself telling you that there's something wrong with the computer, ignore any pop-ups.

And get firefox. Internet explorer is unsafe and prone to hacking. Firefox is not.

What part of your computer does the exclamation mark say isn't protected?  E.g. automatic updates, anti-virus, firewall, UAC, etc...

Not entirely true. FireFox has been caught with it's pants down a few times, but it at least address the issues and solves the problem faster than M$: IE.

It's not one of those spyware things, but it's beside the clock where it shows you the things that are connected to your computer, whether or not you have internet connection
