So, I get Vista from the Windows FeedBack Program.

Im mainly getting it for DirectX10 because I do alot of gaming.

I have completely compatible hardware, 4gb of RAM, a Quad Core processor, the whole deal. Vista running slow should not be a problem.

Now, will I really use it outside of some games? I havent used it but 10minutes so far. Im going to download a trial sometime soon though, so I can get used to it some.

What do you think? Will I really use it? Should I even have it for DX10? Should I possibly just sell it?

I have considered selling it, but more and more games are DX10 compatible, and some are ONLY DX10.

Im not sure what I want to do.

If you believe it will be better for gaming go for it, but you might want to dual-boot with WinXP to have support for some older games which do not work well (if at all) in Vista.

Of course, I planned to tri boot (Ubuntu as well).

I play mostly newer games (Crysis, COD4, etc) so I should be able to use Vista fine for them, and DX10 as well.

I havent got the stats with me but im sure you can find them floating around the internet. Although Vista supports DX10, games do acctually run slower on Vista than in XP!

Thats because DX10 is a resource hog.

Im fully aware of that possibility, hence why Im going to keep my XP install.

Also, SP1 is supposed to fix alot of that, but we will see what happens.

Good question honestly.
Only a handful of games really look a lot better in DX10, primarily Crysis, and I don't reccomend any thing less than an 8800GT 512MB for that game.
But you're right, in the future, more and more games will use DX10, and the only known major effort to hack DX10 over to XP died a while back.

Vista has a lot of issues though, I'll warn you. I'm using Vista 64-bit running on my main PC right now, and while there's a handful of new features that I do like, there's dozens that I hate, not least the UAC which I'll get around to disabling here sooner or later.
