In short, no. There are alternatives, but nothing is better at what Photoshop does than Photoshop.

Speak for yourself.

I find Photoshop's features to be lacking.

Care to entice me as to what program is less 'lacking' to your standards?

The Gimp. What's more, it doesn't take $1000 to get it legally.

The Gimp? The Gimp is completely incompetent compared to Photoshop. Photoshop has 100's more features than The Gimp.

What features does the Gimp have that Photoshop does not?

When you say better than photoshop, what do you mean? Do you mean more features, costs less or just works in a different way?

I reckon its personal preference. You could probably achieve the same effects in both in different ways. Whether it be a combination of layer styles, filters and brushes

Meh, Gimp and Photoshop have about the same features.

Also, you can get photoshop for about $75, it just wont be the newest version. Gimp is free yes, but most people, myself included, prefer photoshop.

GIMP is a good open source clone of photoshop. And free too.
