Okay, so on my friends computer when i go to Microsoft it says his computer failed validation and I don't understand why. And then something about product activation and calling the toll free number to activate. If he bought the computer about a year ago with they still activate the product so it can complete validation?

that means he either has a stolen copy of Windows. or he has an incorrect serial number

it doesn't matter. it means he either has a stolen copy, or he needs to call the toll free number and give them the serial number, they will give him him the correct activation code.
