I am planning to go down to Vista 32 for the moment.  I can't use a webcam, VLC software, Nero software, etc.  Games run smooth of course.

I have a:
3.2DuoCore2
6GB of memory
8800 640MB Video Card
Etc. etc. etc.

Given that setup, i wouldnt make that change unless i had a very good reason. you will chop off most of your RAM.

Nero should work and if it doesn't there are new versions and alternatives.

There is a 64bit version of VLC and it works fine for me.

Pleaseremover,
Wow! A 64bit version of VLC Player?! Nice! Please share the link if its fine with you.  I'll try to check out the NERO website and see what they have.  I like that software to burn CDs and stuff.

Also, I had a Microsoft Webcam VX-3000 which said "Vista ready" and didn't work.  Called tech support and tried and tried.  Finally, they guided me to lower the memory to 3gb and the camera started working but I didn't like that option.  I mean, why go and play around with my computer specs?! That just doesn't sound right.  I just want to connect the webcammy, use it, and that's it.  Like any other normal computer would.

Any webcams out there that work fine with Vista64 (+6GB RAM)?

Thanks in advance

Is it worth upgrading from windows xp sp2 to windows vista

No.
Vista isn't even really worth it with a new PC unless you're desperate, and it's *never* worth it upgrading on an existing PC, because then not only do you get the other hassles Vista brings, you also frequently end up with driver issues, and unless you have an otherwise nice system, Vista will run very slow. It will still run slower than XP no matter what, of course.
