I'm on XP right now, but that's just becuz that's the only pirated one i could find fast lol. 98 is BY FAR the best, way more stable, plus u dont have all the extra "secutiry" (half spying) going on. I've got my XP setup to look like 98 just to make me feel better lol. It's got better plug and play n stuff, but those big colorful kindergarten buttons and extra unnecessary features added for the computer illiterate takes up more memory and processing. Oh and 2000 and ME are definitely the most unstable ever made, i'd never put that on anybody's computer. I might have to look into this linux thing tho....

What crack are you on?  2000 is easily the best version of windows.  I'd rank 95 and Me at the bottom.

I second that.  Windows 2000 is the most stable of all the windows releases.  I've had 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 (server, pro, advanced server), and XP Home.  I've never tried any NT version (I heard the first versions sucked anyway), but out of the ones I've tried, Windows 2000 was by far the most stable on any machine I've installed it on.  Right now I have Windows 2000 Pro installed on one hard drive and Ubuntu linux on the other.  I wanted to see what all the talk of Ubuntu was about.  It really is a great distro!

I disagree with Windows 2k being the most stable.  I find that Windows server 2003 is equally as stable, with far better memory management.  That is my choice windows enviroments.

As for Linux, I use Ubuntu.  I think Debian based distros have the best package management, and have a great philosophy behind them.  I see Debian at the forefront of business linux because of it's adoption of standards, and desktop uniformity.

Oh, and Ubuntu will ship CDs to your house, tons if you request...all for free.  Ubuntu is cutting edge linux.

I have to disagree with the apt-get system on ubuntu (havent tried debian).  What is the point of restricting certain repositories?  Its absolutely pointless, not to mention synaptic is a crock of shit.  I much prefer portage,  Every package is equally available (unless deemed unstable) to the root user.  My only peeve with the portage system is that everything takes so damn long to install.

Apt-get is on all debian distros I believe, as Ubuntu is Debian, it has it.

You can enable universe and multiverse repositiories too.  I don't see what the problem with having the stable packages only accessible from the get go.  This makes the most sense.  If you ARE an advanced user, you obviously van edit your sources list and activate the other repositories.  And Synaptic is fine.  It's very SIMPLE to use, which is Ubuntu's goal...to make Linux accessible for EVERYONE.  If you want a different pacakge manager, no one is stopping you from installing it alongside Synaptic.

i use the Evil Empires' XP on my brand new computer. Yeah!!

we do have a Linux system setup in my dad's computer room and I have played with that some. i like using it, but when things go haywire and don't work right, i can't seem to fix it, so my dad has too. Sometimes it takes him a while to figure out what to do.

we have a mac too. Macs are really really cool!!. i almost got a mac instead of my new Windows computer, but i decided to get a windows computer because i know how to fix most of the problems without having to get my dad to do it for me.

in the living room we have a hacked Tivo Series 1. it runs linux. my dad hacked so it can do all sorts of things like upload\download programs. it has a web interface so it can be control from a computer. it does a lot of other cool stuff too. Tivos are totally cool because after school i get to watch programs are on TV after i go to bed.
