The Internet on my laptop isn't working. When I diagnosed the problem this is what came up:

A cable is not plugged into the network adapter "Local Area Connection"

I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. Can anyone help me, please?

Is your laptop wireless? I know it is a dumb question, but the laptop could be diagnosing its own problem wrong.
If not, have you checked that the wire you usually use to connect to the internet is plugged in both at the back of your laptop and at the router/modem?

Ah ok, it's just I have the Vodaone wireless broadband on my laptop and I'd say two times a day what's happening to your laptop happens to mine!

Yes, it is wireless. So will it just fix itself if I leave it for a few hours?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Your laptop probably has a wired connection port whether you use it or not so it will always display that as not being connected if you're not using it.

Haha, you piggy backer you. It's connecting to someone elses wireless, one of your neighbours. Shhh.

OP ~ I don't know why it is as I don't have wireless, but sometimes my internet says Local Area Connection so I just turn off the modem and turn it on and it normally works.

No, that 'Local Area Network' is a completely different connection than the Wireless Connection.

If your internet isn't working then it's because the wireless connection has a problem. You'll have to go to 'network connections' in Windows and look at the status of the Wireless connection part.

Yes, I just said not connected and when I went to connect it, it comes up:

Windows cannot find any networks.

Then I diagnosed it again and this came up:

this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured.

[Ok, that is different to what came up first]

I wonder would the problem have anything to do with me not installing updates. Hm...

Oooh, that sounds bad. It seems like Windows can't detect the wireless adapter in your laptop which often means there's some sort of driver problem. Is the wireless adapter built in or is it something that was bought separately into an expansion slot?

It could well be. Could you connect it directly to your router using an Ethernet cable and try accessing the Internet. If that works you could run Windows Update and see if it finds new versions of the driver.
