Yes, I just said not connected and when I went to connect it, it comes up:

 Windows cannot find any networks.

Then I diagnosed it again and this came up:

this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured.

[Ok, that is different to what came up first]

Oooh, that sounds bad. It seems like Windows can't detect the wireless adapter in your laptop which often means there's some sort of driver problem. Is the wireless adapter built in or is it something that was bought separately into an expansion slot?

I wonder would the problem have anything to do with me not installing updates. Hm...
It could well be. Could you connect it directly to your router using an Ethernet cable and try accessing the Internet. If that works you could run Windows Update and see if it finds new versions of the driver.

I installed all the updates but the problem is still there. I don't think it could be that then.

I have no idea is it is built in or not. When I got my laptop, my brother sorted the internet up for me. So he may know but I won't see him for another 2 weeks.

Well do you have a little dongle sticking out of your laptop or is the thing inside (which can be presumed if no wireless dongle is outside). If it's inside that's a harder problem to deal with because the model and make of the wireless card is harder to identify so you can reinstall the drivers.

No, nothing like that sticking out. How to I reinstall the drivers? And will that mean I will lose everything on my laptop eg iTunes?

No, it won't. But that's what I suspected, that it's not sticking out. This is much harder to do, and I probably won't be able to help much over the Internet, but I'll try.

Go to the Control Panel in Windows and double click on system. Click the hardware tab and then click on device manager. You should seesomething like this:

Is there anything listed under network adapters like above? If so, what?

If any of it has wireless in the name or something similar right click it and select properties, you should see a window like the one below.

What does the device status say?

Thank you for this! I really do appreciate this.

Yes. It says:

Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

This device is working properly.

Is that it? That's only a wired connection, and not wireless. If it's not showing up at all in the device manager then the computer doesn't detect it at all. If the wireless card is built in as it seems, this means that a cable or connection could have gotten loose inside the computer itself, and this is a much more serious problem.

What model/make computer do you have? How long has it not been working? Have you done anything before it started to stop working, like drop it or something?

Yes, that is it. Ah crap! This is not good!!

It was working fine last night. When I turned it on this morning it wasn't working. No, I don't think I did. I think this may have happened before and it fixed itself or something simpler to it happened. I'm not to sure.

Hmm, that's really weird.
Maybe it will start working again, I really can't think of what else may be the problem. You'd have to ask your brother for specifics.

Ok... this is going to sound silly, but it has happened to my mom and friend with their laptops.

What kind of laptop is it?

On their laptops, there was a switch that turned on the wireless internet adaptor. On my friend's, it was on the front of the laptop, where she would accidentally turn it off whenever she moved around. On my mom's, it was on the side but it's hard to see it because it's rather small and unnoticeable.

Sometimes, just turning it off and back on will help it out as well.

If you tell me what kind of laptop it is, I might be able to tell you where this switch is on your laptop. Or just look for a little on/off switch on it. *shrugs*

You mean the bluetooth switch? (that is what I called it anyways lol) I made sure that was on.

Meant to actually say that the problem fixed itself. I turned my laptop off for a few hours. Went back on a while later and it was working. No idea what was wrong with it but it is fixed now.
