My high school football team has a big, city wide known, rivalry game between the oldest school in town (the one I attend), and a rivaled school. Since I can remember, the game has been scheduled as the last regular season district game. This year though, there was a BIG district class change that took the rivaled school out of our class 5A schedule, putting them in 4A. We weren't supposed to play them anymore, but we pulled some strings and kept the rivalry alive by scheduling them as a season opener, non-district game.
...and that's today!
We've lost to them 9 years running. No matter how good our team had been any year, we've never won. This year is my 2nd time starting against them, and I hated losing last year.
This time, it's different. They've started off horribly in the pre-season practices. We, on the other hand scrimmaged an out of town team who was among one of the best in their district, and dominated.
I'm so excited. I can't wait for the first play. This is our year. We're going to run the ball up their ass, all night. We'll finish the fight.
