do you have a bible at home? Look up THE OLD TESTAMENT.

The Old Testament is the Tanakh, containing the Torah.

QFT

Never seen somebody convert to Judaism before. All the Jewish people I know were raised that way.

Yeah, me too, come to think of it.

When I was 9 I wanted so SO badly to be Jewish. In RE at school they brought in a little (tiny) Torah scroll and I was OBSESSED with it.
I pretended to read it even though I couldn't with one of those little silver hand on a stick pointer things.
I daydreamed in the evenings about one day my parents admitting they were secretly Jews so I could be a Jew (my mother told me that I could never really be Jewish if I was not born that way, that I'd never really be accepted whatever the more 'tolerant' Jews claim). This secret longing went on for a very long time, I only really finally shook it off one or two years ago.

no, I don't believe in God.

it's an obstacle on the path to my judaism, I'll admit.

Ah yes. That one. I used to be like that too.
Then one day I woke up I did. The transition had been imperceptible. I still have no idea what happened.

Yeah there's an Artscroll English translated bible with English on one side and Hebrew on the other.

The Torah contains several sections including The (old)Testament, the Haftorah and other writings.  You can start by reading the five books of the Old Tastament.  The Haftorah is also available in English.  Any Conservative of Reform synagouge will have it; it's used in Sabbath services.
But if you're considering converting, you may want to take courses for people considering conversion, as it's a much better way of learning about what Judasim is.  Figuring it out from reading on your own is more than a lifelong effort.  Plus the Torah, while containing the most important Jewish writings, does not contain the details of Judaism.  The specific rules and such are burried in the Talmud, an interesting thing to study, but a difficult way to understand what Judaism is.

Yeah, there are english versions, but I'm not sure what your planning on gaining from reading the Torah. If you do only read the Torah you'll only be reading the stories inside and not gaining a full understanding of how or why.

The laws practiced to be by Jews are not the laws in the Torah, they have been reformulated and reevaluated on many occasions to adapt to new times and different circumstances.

You should go to a Torah class to learn about the Torah properly to gain proper knowledge of what different aspects/the wording represents.

If you are interested in converting you need to speak to a rabbi and traditionally you need discuss with him why you want to convert on 3 seperate occasions. Each time he will reject you so u can reevaluate your reasoning of wanting to become Jewish. On the third time if you still want to be jewish he will help you convert.

I would advise converting at a reform synagogue as there will be less lifestyle changes for you (they are less orthodox).

pm me if you have any queries or questions, regardless of my beliefs I'd be happy to help you
