I know a lot of people dislike, or shy away from, FUJIFILM cameras, but that seems a real shame.
Anywho, affordability and quality have drawn me to the FinePix S Series cameras. Since my camera has been unwillingly put to rest, I am upgrading.

FUJIFILM FinePix S100fs

http://a.img-dpreview.com/reviews/FujifilmS100fs/Images/Fuji_S100fs_3qtr-001.jpg

Headline features

   * 14.3X optical zoom (28-400mm equivalent)
   * 2/3" sensor with 11.1 million effective pixels
   * Eighth generation Super CCD HR sensor
   * 2.5" tiltable LCD screen
   * Film simulation modes (imitate the behavior of Fuji films)
   * Dynamic range expansion mode
   * Exposure, dynamic range and film simulation bracketing

OR

FUJIFILM FinePix S8100fd

http://www.dphotojournal.com/images/fuji/fuji-finepix-s8100fd.jpg

The Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd is a 10 MegaPixel SLR-like digital camera features Fujinon 18X Zoom (35mm equivalent: 27 - 486mm), Dual IS, ISO 64-6400, One-touch Face Detection Technology with Auto Red Eye Removal, and a 2.5″ LCD Screen. The camera measures 111.3(W)x78.2(H)x79.3(D) mm / 4.4(W)x3.1(H)x3.1(D) in and weighs 405g/14.3oz.

I'm not expecting vast replies on this, but...
Those in photography, what do you think?

I don't like Fujfilm at all. I'd suggest Nikon!

But If you really make me choose I'd say that I need to read more about the specs of both.

The first one looks great.

I have a Canon similar to that one. I love it to death.

Why not just go with a Canon Powershot S5 IS.  Bout the same price.

Affordability people. Affordability.

How much is it?

The Nikon D4O is about $550 with a lens (You can get it cheaper even! I saw an amazing deal on ebay yesterday!)

They arent bad bits of kit, im trying to remember the camera i really liked, it was based on Nikon D200 body and made by Fuji. It was amazing as it it had just a huge dynamic range in it's sensor. Quality suffered a little, as you would expect, but the range there was just scary. I think i will be sticking with my D80 for now, but they do impress me.

Edit: just realised your topic was about you getting one, sorry. I looked at a few models before that camera a few years ago and i ended up not picking it due to the menu structure. I found the camera too complicated to use.

Whats your price range? Also, try to get your hands on one first so you can see what it's like, its about a lot more than specs and price.

I don't know why I tend to shy away from Canon.
Bandwagon fear maybe. But I'll check into it.

   *   12x optical zoom lens with Ultrasonic Motor (USM) and UD lens
   * Optical Image Stabilizer
   * 8.0 Megapixel CCD
   * DIGIC III with advanced Noise Reduction technology and Face Detection for stills and movies
   * Red-Eye Correction in playback
   * 2.5" high-resolution vari-angle LCD
   * Long-play VGA movies with stereo sound and Photo in Movie
   * 22 shooting modes including full manual control and 0cm Super Macro
   * High ISO 1600 and Auto ISO Shift
   * Compatible with Wide/Tele/Close-up converter lenses and Canon EX Speedlite flashes

I'd prefer a higher MP, but it's an option. And cheaper than what I'm looking at, even.

Go Nikon or Canon. Unless you want to stick with the Fujifilm "Point and Shoot/Bridge Camera" (No interchangeable lenses or anything) basically a wannabe DSLR.

You can get a good starter DSLR which will have more room to upgrade for cheaper than this.

Nikon D40 and you can change lenses the future. Nikon is affordable.

Or you can get a Canon Rebel XTI (even better than the D40) for the same price as the Fuji.

Point & Shoot FTL. (For photography that is)
