No, word on the street is he's offering a $500 million dollar grant to whomever builds a walker he can implant his brain into. An extra 250 million if they install pod missile launchers and cup-holders.

Very cool.  Nuclear power is the future.  Sorry people are scared by the word "nuclear" maybe they should get educated.

If we build breeder reactors we will reuse the "waste" material until it becomes about as radioactive as phosphorescent paint.  The main environmental impact would be heated waste water non-radioactive.

I'm alright with maybe a dozen or half of that, but we certainly don't need a 100, especially if the biggest countries in the world (China and India are about, what, 2.5 billion maybe?) will build less than that (compared to our, like 370 million or something). And then, we'd also have to build enough of these breeder reactors to recycle all the nuclear waste we'd be making, or else stuff more of our mountains with the stuff (I can see it now, the Appalachian and Rockies will become the Neon West and Neon East Mts.)

It sounds like a good idea, until you get down to the specifics, but then when the ideas are implemented, these kind of problems crop up that should have been obvious but still were ignored in the planning process. Sound familiar (::coughIraqcough::) ?

One of the things I like about him.  We need nuclear power, and nuclear research.

China isn't nearly as technologically advanced as us. They don't need all the power we do even though they have a bigger population.

Wind is a great supplement but not an answer. They're not very consistent. If the wind slows down a little bit then your grid loses power, there's no way to cope with that. We have to have something conistent.

What kind of nuclear power plants?

We talking heavy water, conventional, or pebble bed?

Furthermore, what's his take on reprocessing?

zero emission? since when is nuclear waste "zero emission"?

When you reprocess it and throw the rest into a special thorium reactor it's virtually zero emissions.

That is because they burn a lot of coal instead. Nuclear plants are better for the environment that burning coal they just have much higher initial costs so China is not willing to put as much money in to the point that american business might. There is one problem with implementing nuclear power in the US in the near future that will probably become moot as soon as nuclear is seriously looked at and that is we do not currently have enough people with the education to design, build and maintain the plants. This is because there has not been to big of a demand for that kind of education and so people have not been going into the field but as the demand for people with that kind of education increases that problem will go away. Most people here also don't seem to understand how inovation has greatly reduced waste. Most new plants reuse radio active materials until they become much less dangerous than nuclear waste used to be. The government should tax nuclear waste taking into account the radioactivity of the waste to promote the corporations the build the plants to make them reduce waste and promote them to make there new plants as safe to the environment as possible. I believe this is a just tax because in releasing dangerous and damaging waste they are hurting the environment and therefore violating the property rights of those around them, this is why I also believe a carbon tax is a just tax.
France is getting 76% of there power from nuclear and it seems to be working, and there have been no huge disaster like Chernobyl because of it. 100 plants would greatly reduce America's reliance on coal and natural gas for energy production, 100 plants is many megawatts of power. France has 56 nuclear plants and they provide france with most of her power.
