Being mature is about starting to be independent, making positive choices about your life and taking responsibility for yourself,

if you want to grow up then start by getting a job, so you can be more independent. take some responsibility's, for example doing your own washing or helping around the house. those are the sorts of things that make you an adult, not 'hooking up' with someone or doing drugs.

I want to be more of a serious person and act more adult. I've had job experience (currently unemployed), online breakups, hookups (no sex involved), drugs, family members dying, yet I don't feel very mature.

I am similar to you.  I am a serious person and sort of mature.  I am unemployed too now.  It's really hard to get a job.  I had family members die too.

It matters how you react to bad and good situations that shows your maturity.  Try and live as you think maturity is.
