Anonomous Letter about not Recommending an RA...
as a fellow RA

OK, here is my story.  I am going to be a new RA (resident assistant) this fall at my university.  I'm soooo excited to start!!

My only concern is this: There is 1 person who applied the same time I did.  I do not like him, I have personal problems with this kid.  Luckily for me, he did not get the RA job.

However I am still really worried that he might potential get to be an RA . If someone else leaves suddenly over the summer months, he is likely to at some point maybe be asked to take their job.  That would make me REALLY upset...

I have a bias with this guy (I used to have a crush on him), BUTTTT I also have a number of legit reasons why I dont think he would be a good RA.  In fact, I get the feeling he doesn't care at all about the job and didn't take it seriously when applying.

My question is: In your opinion, at the college age level, do you think it would be apporpriate or inappropriate for me to write an anonomous letter telling my Boss (in ResLife) that I feel he should NOT be considered for the job?  Should I tell them my concerns or should I just let it go?

I don't think that's such a great idea. What if you lose your job?

I think you should let it go. If he would make a bad RA, then that will be seen if he ever gets promoted by the way he handles things and they'll strip him of the job. You might be judging him of things that happened in the past, and you really shouldn't try to wreck things for him, because that's just low. He could be a completely different person, so don't try to ruin it for him.

It might also be obvious to the boss that the only person that would care so much about the RA position is you, who actually got the RA position. So I'd leave it. It's mean and underhanded.

Very much inappropriate. You said it yourself, you have personal issues and are biased. Which means what you think could be bad qualities are just in your head because if your issues. It would also be quite rude and immature.. they're pretty good at picking them out, it's their job. Let them do it.

I have to agree with that statement because it is true. If you are biased of someone, then avoid anything commenting on them. There are also probably some people who may feel you should not have the job. I just feel that in this case you should let whatever happen, happen.
