HELP!!!!
I've had my guitar since Christmas and am ashamed to say that I still can't do bar chords.

But at least i can finger pick ^_^, moving on....

I know that avoiding them didn't help(probably made it worse) but my fingers just aren't able to stretch across ALL the strings whille other fingers are like, 2 frets down

See, I REALLY want to learn this song (Simple & Clean by Hikaru Utada) and it has a couple of bar chords in it.
I keep trying to do the 'F#m' chord where your first finger has to go across ALL the strings in the second fret while the 3rd and 4th fingers are in the fourth fret and my fingers just can't stretch that far

What do I do...keep trying?
Or get a smaller guitar?
I'm at a complete loss here
Self teaching is harder then I thought

you basically just need to work on stretching your finger and being able to hold it all down. it will take some time to get it right, but you'll get it eventually

Use your other hand to stretch your fingers over. Don't even play the chord, just hold your finger there for a while. It's very hard to train your fingers to do so but you'll get it in time.

You want to curl your finger close to the end of the fret, don't keep it flat, and avoid a very sharp grasp. You don't have to push down too hard to bend down the strings. Most people, when first learning, make the mistake of pushing too hard, which causes the strings to rattle and their hands to cramp. Keep it simple.

this. don't force your hand, allow yourself time to adapt to the instrument and slowly work on stretching your fingers without killing yourself. doing a barre across the strings is tough at first since it really digs into your finger but with enough practice you'll get it.

shift that F#m arpeggio up a few frets so the distance between your fingers isn't as wide. this will be somewhat easier to fret, and if you can manage it higher on the neck then work on bringing it down to the 2nd fret.

hope this helps you out
