Same thing happened to me yesterday. I went to the supermarket to pick up things for my sisters birthday party, and my ex girlfriend was in there and wanted me to meet her new boyfriend and was about to go get him, I told her, "Look, if he comes within 10 feet of me, I don't care if he ignores me, says hi, or wants to kill me, I WILL go to jail, and he will be taken out of here in a plastic bag." Albeit I'm sure your girlfriend didn't break up with you on Christmas because she was sleeping with her new boyfriend meanwhile even though he had no clue who I was told her we were good friends and how I did all this bad stuff and that the reason why we didn't have sex was because I had herpes and would feel bad giving it to her, even though I don't have herpes, or any other STD, and the reason was because we only went out for 3 months, but apparently every girl is supposed to give it up by then in his mind.

Why should it cause problems. She's an ex and unless you still have a thing for her there should be no problems. If you do there still shouldn't be any problems. Be a man about it, be nice to him and wish them happiness in their relationship. You will feel better about yourself if you do.
