I don't know how else to explain the title, sorry.

I mean, there's Father Time, Mother Nature, ect...

Then God is a "He," Earth is a "She," and I know there's some other stuff I'm forgetting but oh well.

Why do we make them females/males?

Because humans, by nature, usually have to apply a face to a concept before they can understand it.

Nature/Earth has female connotations because those are things that usually bring up thoughts of creation (i.e. birth).

God has male connotations because God is powerful and men are viewed as more powerful than women.

Yes, maybe you could view it that way, but the sea is powerful. Possibly the most powerful force of nature, and it is referred to as a female, always.

Mother Nature and Father Sky come from Native Americans. Mother Nature is powerful, and in Native American belief women hold all the power and are the ones that give it to the men. Mother Nature creates everything that one needs to exist, and so whenever a Native American takes from the Earth they are sure to practice ceremonies, to appreciate Her.
Father Sky holds sky medicine, which is spoken word and stories. Stories are ceremonies, which heal when Mother Earth has been wronged.
Somebody might argue that the Sky is the Father because stories are passed from generation to generation, like how in typical white societies families are patrilineal, however Native American families are matrilineal. Although that has obviously changed in recent times.
If I can find my notes I might be able to get back to you with absolutely accurate information.
