If you are blonde or redhead or light haired in general it just tends to look too dark. Go for brown or grey or coloured!
Even though I have dark hair and olive skin, I find black mascara is still too dark for me. It justs makes my lashes look like they obviously have mascara on them rather than looking enhanced.  

If I ruled the world, I'd ban black mascara and eyeliner.

However, I do find that with my pale skin, black eyeliner is too much. As a basic colour, I wear brown, but I like to play around with weird stuff anyway.

a) you are dark skinned
b) you have dark eyebrows
c) it is evening
d) you are a goth [okay generalisation]
e) are female
f) are an emo faggot

I agree. Last year at graduation my light-blonde friend wore dark black mascara... it just looked weird. Although I think some people suit it, as long as it's not too thick.
