well, "everyone" runs windows because it is very easy to use compared to linux or macs, it has far more apps to go with it and installing it is very easy. Linux can be a right pain...not to mention its so very odd in places...it almost like "we should have this app because there is space, not because we need it". Macs....well, dont even get me started. Mac users seems to rarly understand all the things they put up with....and yet they call their system great. They are forced on to hardware that is not their choice, thats costs a small fortune and the software is so limiting...yet its thought to be great...i just dont get it. now you take a windows users....at least they dont think their system is great...but they can do alot more. Windows drives me up the wall....but i yet to find a system good enough for me to change.

Well let us not forget Microsoft business tatics, as well as the fact its the only mainstream commercial OS for the x86 arch. Even the few commercial Linux disrto's people seldom buy, since they can also be attained sans cost.

Thats awfully hypocritical to say from a pro-windows standpoint. Isn't the windows install around 800meg? I honestly can't remember (dont want to look it up), however it is possible to build a comparable system (browser, music player, a few basic games, every day user activity) for about 50-100 meg. Thats just too damn excessive for me.

Weren't you the one who not too long ago made a topic saying that you didn't think Mac's were all that bad? At any rate the hardware is their choice, otherwise they wouldn't choose to buy it, they just can't drastically alter the hardware.

yes, indeed I did make the topic about Macs....I have since spent a lot more time playing round on them and have become less and less impressed about the restrictions. Now as tux is your avatar I知 guessing you池e a Linux man, so I had better focus on that. the point about the space was badly made, I admit that....what I was talking about was space on the CD. As I知 sure you know, Linux ISO's take up the whole CD (well, most of them do) and as I have explored most of the top distro's it seems that there are loads of little apps which are just pointless and gimmicky and get I知 my way. e.g., the little coffee timer I found on knoppix (3.4 I think). I think Linux could (and should) be a real alternative for business, but only if it is coordinated a bit more. I would love to see distro's without all the crap added. Ones that contain what you need to run a computer, and then a few basics like open office are nice. Then people (and businesses) can add only what then need. If you think down to it, most of what actually comes with windows is useful for the system and the running of it (with a few exceptions). Now I am not saying all hail MS...please don稚 get me wrong. I would love to see Linux take MS...but it isnt going to happen unless all the crap is taken out and it is made a little bit more useable. until that day comes I will be sticking with windows. As for Macs, I have come to realise that Macs are machines for people that follow a cult because they know nothing else. the OS if you look from a windows or Linux point of view is far from impressive. Have you ever noticed that Macs users are some of the few in the world that tell you how great their OS is? this isnt because it is great, its just they cant see how bad it is and how many limitations it has because they have never taken the time out to have a look at anything else. I知 sure I have repeated myself lots during that, I知 very sorry.

Hell sometimes the linux install takes up to 4 disks *cough*mandrake*cough*, but there are some minimal install Cd's. As for the coffee timer (i think its a tea timer actually, whatever), what can i say, there was probably extra space in the end and some dipshit thought it would be a good idea to throw on there, I mean even in any given language it woudnt be hard to put together that specific program. Knoppix is meant to be either (predominantly) a rescue distro, or an intoductory distro, so why not try to impress with little flashy programs, eh?
As for Macs, I have come to realise that Macs are machines for people that follow a cult because they know nothing else. the OS if you look from a windows or Linux point of view is far from impressive. They are useful for rendering and things of the sort, thats about it. I too am quite disappointed with the OS X, I've been trying to get portage on it, but the damned mirror for the dmg is down *shakes fist*. We should, however wait until Apple switches to Intel processors, and see how the Os changes from there, perhaps (hopefully) good things will happen.
