A prime example is Europe. The majority of it's large changes(ages) have all been brought on by an imperialistic force conquering and cultural diffusion bringing that way of life throughout all conquered territory. Afterwards, imperialism on a world wide scale even contributed to the global commerce we have today.

Yes, advancement requires order. Order is often achieved by force. The only proper and permanent way something can be accomplished is if it is done by a cooperative mass which requires a leader. Imposition and forcing labor is one of the ways to do it, and the easier way.
