So I assume you donate every penny you don't need to survive to the homeless? You must not have anything that you don't have to have to stay alive.

Just so you know your point is actually totally completly frowned upon. Whats the point of helping some people if you just get into the same situation. In JUdaism for example they suggest 10% of what you earn and no more, is what you should give.

I am an Atheist. I found this picture, and thought it spoke in screaming logic to a point. I didn't ask you to attack me because you have no argument, I asked you to simply discuss.

I was simply pointing out that nearly everyone spends money on things that they don't need, not just Christians. But I guess because Christians put a bigger emphasis on helping those less fortunate than themselves that makes them a target for criticism.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to personally attack you. I was just trying to make the point that although on the surface that picture looks clever, if you really think about it it isn't really making a good point. Anyway, I apologize, I didn't mean to sound like a jerk.

I know.
I just know very very few people who fit this picture perfectly. Even though most religions do not fill up with people like this, I think we all know religious individuals who fit this description.

I need fingers and toes to counts the ones I know. Sadly, they are all in my family, but I know many more than that.
They donate to their church, and that is what they deem to be 'giving'. But the only thing to show for it is new pews and a larger collection bowl. And some wafers with a new design. Something petty.

True.

I have yet to meet a single Christian who actually does anything to make a difference.
Actually, I have yet to meet a Christian who did more than pay lip service.

You probably haven't met very many Christians.

While I can see this picture being true of some people, the vast majority of Christians I know (and I know a lot) give a lot more money than they're actually able to give, both to the church and to charities. It's an important act of worship in Christianity, believe it or not...most people assume that the money either goes to buy the pastor nice things or make the church attractive, but actually, more than half of what's donated ends up going to various charities and to helping people.

So...really, while ignorance would cause people to assume that picture is true, it's just that--ignorance.

Matthew 5:14-16

You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

If someone claims to be a Christian, and therefore claims that their life is governed by divine truth, then damn right they should be held to a higher standard than the pagans and the atheists.

I don't mind being held to a higher standard, but it does get annoying to be criticized by someone, who doesn't know me or what I've done, because of things they think they know about "stereotypical Christians".
