I'm reading The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis and for those of you who haven't read it, it's focused on these three characters who are caught in a love triangle while attending college.  Basically all the characters do are party, get drunk, get high, and sleep with the next drunk person.  It seems as if they've slept with 37937982 people.  They're always talking about how they had sex with that person they just saw, then another person walks by who they've had sex with.  My question to you is, is this normal in today's college life?  I mean the book was written in '87 but still, is that how college life really is?

it's how some people's college life is

obviously everyone is totally different. some people stay inside for four years studying. some participate in all manner of wholesome activities.

it's just that party-animal sluts are more interesting and so that's the type of college life that gets portrayed in the media
