she definitely has self esteem problems, and she's really closed off. It's impossible to talk to her about anything serious in person, and over im she's so easily offended that it's almost impossible to talk to her- every single thing i say, she takes as an offence. I'm worried about her, but i have absolutely no idea what to do. Help....

try sitting down with her and tell her that you feel theres something bothering her, and your wanting to help her. Theres not much you can do if they are not saying anything, but reassure her that you're open to talk to if she needs someone

Just keep being supportive...it makes sense she'd have problems after something like that happened.  At this point, the only one who can really help her is herself, but you can try to aid her.  Maybe look up on the Internet, like on WikiHow, how to give a friend self-esteem, and make them feel better...
