so, the results were that some of the alpha particles fired at the atom were reflected at angles of more that 90 degrees, thus proving the "plumpudding" model false because it showed there was something deflecting the particles away, something that the plumpudding theory did not show, correct?
the plum pudding model showed that the atom contained electrons, with a negative charge, but no protons with a positive charge, correct?
so can electrons not deflect alpha particles?

It didn't show there were no protons, it showed there WERE positively charged areas, as when the alpha particles hit these they were deflected by more than 90 degrees, however it shows instead of being evenly spread, positive charges were in clumps (what we now know to be nucleii). The alpha particles weren't deflected by the electrons because they are too thinly spread to do anything unlike the very dense nucleii.

Incidentally this signature is available in the foyer.

although some also bounced off and were reflected back, indicating there was space between the proton-neutron core and the electrons, while the plum pudding model suggests that the space was filled
