Hey guys... This is my formal warning that this rant will be very controversial and I know that there will be at least ONE person who's views differ from mine, but I ask that you do not judge me based on my opinions as I do not judge you for yours.
OK so now that you know that, I'm moving on.
For those of you who don't know me very well, you might not know what my political views are because I am almost apathetic towards politics. Yes, almost. With that said, there are certain aspects of politics that I am very passionate about. To rattle off a few, I completely support everything pro-music education, anything anti-abuse, and I am a very very passionate supporter of GLBT rights. GLBT (Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transvestite) rights are something I choose to support for many reasons. Listing a few:
Reason 1
I have friends who are GLBT and I totally support them being able to be with someone of the same gender, getting married, and even adopting children together.
Reason 2
As an American, you are given rights and freedoms. Whether you are black, white, gay, straight, tall, short, etc, etc. these freedoms should not be taken away from you due to prejudice.
Reason 3
Adding to what I just said, if all Americans are created equal, whose right is it to judge and rule over GLBT being right or wrong. If we are all equal people, then by law, we should all have equal rights!
So if you're already upset with my views from reading that, I recommend that you don't read further and upset yourself more.
For those of you who are reading on, thank you. :]
I have been very, very annoyed with the "Vote Yes on Proposition 8" issue. Yes, I know that is not in my state, but it affects what I believe nonetheless. At first, it was just a slight annoyance, but as I learned more about it, the more it started to actually anger me. I learned about it from sources that were neither for nor against the proposition, and I took my side based on my views and beliefs. Proposition 8 was concerning the issue of gay marriage. It shocked me! It was saying that only a man and woman could be allowed marriage documents and the rights that come with marriage. Granted, I understand that the definition of marriage is speaking of a man and a woman bound in matrimony, where does the gay man's right to adopting children and having "normal" rights go? This upset me because it seems like discrimination. No, it's not racial profiling anymore. It's sexual [preference] profiling nowadays.
Proposition 8 passed, which was a bummer to me, but I've been on forums checking out what people have to say about the issues at hand, and I was shocked to see such hate coming out of people.
Quoting a few people from LW =( :
'I'm voting YES on 8! Fags can burn in hell and they have no right to get married. That is between a man and a woman. If we let fags marry we might as well allow pedafiles rights to children. There is a reason a man has a penis and a female has a vagina. 2 males can not, and will never be able to have kids, thus leaving the world with no population. If everybody was a fag, we would have like 2 people on this earth. You say the government should not control our lives? So we should be able to do whatever the hell we wanted? What if I wanted to bang the shit out of my sister? Should that be legal? Should I have rights to marry my sister? What if I wanted to fuck the shit out of a 12 year old girl? Should that be legal? Should I have rights because I like to have sex with children? What if the 12 year old consented? Should we still be allowed to get married even though I might be 30 or 40 years old? You think pedafiles and incest is sick? I agree it's sick, it is a mental sickness just like being gay is a mental sickness as well. Being gay, incest, pedafles, serial killers, all that stuff is a mental sickness and is not natural. YES ON 8!'
and...
'Yeah times are changing so we are forced to deal with gays and their perversion? Soon as we legalize gay marriage somebody is going to want to legalize something else, and something else, and something else. Soon enough 12 year old girls can marry 40 year olds guys have the same rights as anybody because they are "in love." Soon enough people will be marching for incest rights because they love their cousin or sister and want to marry them. Soon enough we will have pedafiles wanting to marry children and wanting their rights, and soon enough we will have people marching for beastiality rights. Soon rapists, pedafiles, and even animals will have more rights than us "normal" people. Soon enough people will over throw our government rendering our criminal justice system useless. Times are changing, and ther changing for the worse! Violence is getting worse, divorce rates are higher than ever, stds are becoming the next plague, and we the people do nothing about it but make it worse by wanting our so called "rights." Why don't we just get rid of the justice system? Lets just do whatever we want, lets do drugs, kills people, rape people, and everythig else in the book because I want to be free and do whatever I want and nobody has the right to tell me otherwise! Our world is only going to get worse. We might as well legalize drugs, pedafiles, incest, and everything else because "times are changing."'
Reading hundreds of terrible responses like these made me realize that gay rights is the racism of our generation! After reading the first response I quoted, I was ready to cry, I was so angry! It's all hate; it's all discrimination.
I realize that there is the argument that it is against Christianity to be homosexual, and I am aware of the verses that 'prove' this. However, being an American, people have a right to choose which religion, if any, they believe in.
Regardless of religious background, I see this as hate. I do not see much difference in this from "You're black so you can't ride this bus." The argument I see from many Americans today is "You're gay, you cannot have the same rights as a married heterosexual couple." I don't think this is right at all.
And without any views or opinions [mine, yours, your neighbor's, your mom's, etc] I am saying that this is the start of a new form of racism. Our generation is going to see it big time. I think about times when I was not around, when women were not allowed sufferage and blacks were not equal to whites and realize that this is going to be a bumpy ride... Maybe I should buckle up.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone or if you don't agree with me, but I had to get this off my chest. It's been bothering me for over a week, building up inside of me, and I did not want to take it out on some innocent bystander haha. Thank you for taking the time to read this, please leave your opinions! :]
