If this were true, why have sports cars and economy cars? Different kinds of cars serve different purposes. You can't use a Tempo to haul fish off the beach, but its going to be brutal maneuvering an F-450 Dually in NYC. A Veyron is hardly practical for taking your kids to school. In my case the Tempo's purpose is to drive me to school and town. The Cheyenne's purpose is to haul fish off the beach and drive in deep snow on unplowed roads. 
But think of this, even a sports car can hual fish if the owner doesn't give a shit about the car(up to him) he can put it in the car. Not saying it would be wise or w/e but a car can do anything wether its up to the owner or not and its hes right to do what ever with the car. People can judge but they can't claim what it should be used for since it isn't theres.
I would have to agree with that. I know a fellow that lives in my general area that owns a Maserati and drive it year-round, my friends always are WTF"ing at someone driving such an expensive car in the winter, I say at least hes getting use out of the damn car, Why spend $100k on a car and have it be a garage queen, its built for only one purpose, to DRIVE.

People can drive what they want if they can afford it I suppose. Just don't bitch about gas prices when you're driving an F-150 when you would be just as well off in a Focus. As for the Maserati, its purpose is to drive. Its built for the pleasure of driving. Not true with a Ford Tempo or Chevy K2500. The Tempo was marketed as a family economy car. An AWD Escort and then some. As such its not fast, powerful, cool looking, its merely practical, reliable, fuel efficient transportation. It serves its purpose well. Which is why I get pissed off when people bitch about it. The Chevy's purpose is to do what a truck does, it does it well. I don't drive it to school, thats not what its designed to do. Well maybe, because thats driving, but it sucks ass at it because its uncomfortable, hard to get in and out of, very basic (AM radio ftl), and it sucks gas like none other.
