So I'm staring my college applications, and I have a question about personal statements. How long should they be?

And what should they have in them?

Depends where you're applying. I'd say about two A4 pages long, but the more you say the better.

Personal statements are necessary over here, for Uni applications.

Want me to send you mine? I got offers from all of the unis I applied for, despite my grades being under par, so I guess it's a pretty good example.

does it not give a length?. i would say at least 400 words.

include relevent info that makes you appealing. family background, career goals, extra curricular activites, stories that make you seem interesting/exciting/a good fit for their univeristy and show how well rounded you are...

You should make them a length you would presonally accept. But typically the more detailed you are, the better it is. History has shown that too many details just makes it all bullshit. Yep.

Most generally personal statements are expected to be in the ballpark of 500 words. Usually admissions officers don't finish if it's much longer.

In it you'll want to tell of the aspects of yourself that are not shown in other parts of the application. What should they know about you? What characteristics do you possess that will make you a positive contribution to their school? Those kinds of things.

Being that there are probably many applicants, try to make yours stand out somehow with good descriptive examples.
