I don't see why either, he took half that amount a few weeks ago and didn't feel much, but hadn't done anything since then until the 300mg dose...so that rules out tolerance. A little over 150 lbs isn't that much; I'm stumped about why he needed so much as well.
Needless to say, after he felt the positive effects, he felt extremely sick and itchy, couldn't sleep, piss, shit, and was gagging up mucus despite the extreme cotton mouth. It is possible the acetaminophen wasn't properly removed during the extraction, so this could have resulted in some side effects.
Eventually he kept complaining about extreme stomach pains, and he could hardly move...could this be because of the fact that he hasn't had a bowel movement in a few days? He took an exlax before the codeine and took 1 and a half when he woke up today, but he's still worried about not having a bowel movement yet..

Opiates constipate you. I'm taking methadone right now and I shit about once a day. Also, the stomach pains are also a side effect of taking too much codeine. Most opiates cause nausea, including codeine. I've taken pure codeine pills in the past; too much of them, and I'd be vomiting the next morning. He should probably stop taking codeine and talk to his doctor about a different kind of painkiller. Codeine and tramadol, weaker opiates, have quite low overdose levels, as in half a gram or less. Percocet is probably better for him since it doesn't overdose you after taking one pill. Tell your brother about Percocet and have him talk to his doctor about replacing the codeine with that.

3g, I thought the fatal dose was 15,000-20,000 milligrams??

what about 30 mg of vicodin/5000 mg acetaminophen?
with the acetaminophen removed through extraction, of course...

one of the reasons codeine is not as widely prescribed as it could be is that in order for it to work, it requires a certain enzyme be present in the liver. not all people have this natural enzyme.

chances are, hes one of the people who lacks the proper enzymes in his liver to get the most out of the codeine.

Yeah, my brother decided he will no longer use codeine since it has to be converted to be effective. Which is the reason for me asking about the effects of 30mg hydrocodone...would this be a reasonable dose, or is it too much? Additionally, what dose of hydrocodone would be considered the optimal high dose before the effects are unpleasantly excessive?
